WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE TEST?
common mistakes
Some mistakes are more common than others when it comes to drivers taking the restricted test. Keep an eye out for these mistakes while driving to make sure you won’t be marked down when you take the restricted test.
FORGETTING TO INDICATE
It is really important to indicate for three seconds every time you want to turn. On a roundabout this is every time you are not going straight ahead. Make sure you’re using the correct indicator for the direction you want to go in.
Not looking out for hazards and other traffic
You need to check over your right shoulder and check your mirrors when you are on the road. Sometimes there can be objects in your blind spots that you can miss if you aren’t checking over your shoulder. Make sure you can check all three of your mirrors too!
FORGETTING TO GIVE WAY TO OTHER VEHICLES
If you’re wanting to turn then you’ll have to give way to all vehicles who are going straight ahead on a road. On a right turn you’ll have to also look out for those coming towards you. The top of a t- intersection always goes before you if you’re on the bottom of the T. If no other give way rules apply you should always give way to vehicles who are coming from your right. Remember to stay safe by picking a safe gap to move into!
GOING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT
maximum speed you can go in good conditions. You must stay under or at this speed before the sign. If you see a higher speed limit sign, you can only speed up after you pass the sign. You also need to slow down at school zones or areas where there is roadworks.
