Get Your Licence is designed to support you at every step, so you’re not just passing tests, you’re learning to drive safely and confidently for life.
THE LICENCE PATHWAY.
Step 1 - Learner Licence
- You have to be at least 16 years old.
- You must get at least 32 of 35 answers correct on the Learner Licence Theory test.
- You must always have a supervisor (someone who has had their full licence for more than 2 years AND is older than 20 years of age) in the front passenger seat. You must display learner plates and zero alcohol limit for anyone under 20 years old.
- You should have at least 120 hours of supervised driving before sitting the restricted test.
Step 2 - Restricted Licence
- You have to be at least 16½ years old (have held your learners for at least 6 months).
- Successful passing of a 45 minute practical driving test.
- You can drive solo but cannot drive between the hours of 10pm-5am unless with a supervisor and with limited passergers.
- You should have at least 120 hours of supervised driving before sitting the full test.
Step 3 - Full licence
- You have to be at least 18 years old and have held your restricted for at least 18 months or 12 months with an approved advanced driving course.
- Successful passing of a 30 minute advanced skills practical test.
- You should have several months of varied driving after obtaining your restricted licence, including experience on motorways, at night, and in adverse weather, to build confidence and strengthen your skills.

WHY TRAINING HOURS MATTER
Drivers with at least 120 hours of supervised practice are up to 40% less likely to crash in their first years of driving.
Training time should cover a variety of conditions and environments, including urban and rural roads, day and night driving, motorways and high-speed roads, as well as wet and windy conditions.
